Royal Bond Novice Hurdle General Info

One of Fairyhouse’s top races, the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle is a Grade 1 event for those aged 4+, run over a two-mile trip and featuring ten hurdles.

Given its quality the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle 2019 should be an important stepping stone to the Cheltenham Festival and as such it remains one of the most important races on the calendar for horsemen and punters alike.

2001 winner Like-A-Butterfly went on to win the 2002 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle while 2012 champion Jezki ran third in the same race before going on to score in the Champion Hurdle the following season.

The Royal Bond Novice Hurdle 2019 will take place on Sunday December 1st and will be worth a cool €53,000 to the winner.

Royal Bond Novice Hurdle Tips

Envoi Allen

Envoi Allen, Champion Bumper winner, a scorer on his reappearance and current favourite for the 2020 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, would surely be a very short price for this race if he lines up and as such, we should aim for something offering a little more value when ante post betting opens.

Dlauro

Joseph O’Brien holds a strong hand in terms of the early entries and his Dlauro is expected to be aimed at the Supreme Novices’. His bumper win at Punchestown in May was a great sight, but without a run in public since it’s hard to judge the six-year-old accurately at this stage.

Andy Dufresne

Dlauro is owned by JP McManus and he too may have somewhat of a stranglehold on this event given that he also has Andy Dufresne with Gordon Elliott.

Just a five-year-old like the majority of the top contenders, Andy Dufresne is two from two in rules races since making the switch from point-to-points, winning his bumper race easily in the new year before scoring on his hurdling debut in fine style when taking a maiden at Navan in November.

He already looks capable of taking a race of this nature and should improve plenty from that last outing, making him the potential value in the race when prices are announced.

Royal Bond Hurdle Stats & Trends

With 8 career wins, Willie Mullins is the most successful trainer in the history of this race but he doesn’t have quite the same strong team this year. That said, it is usually a top-class trainer who does win this race, so keep an eye on the likes of Gordon Elliott and Joseph O’Brien.

Since the turn of the millennium, 8 of the 19 winners have gone off favourite but the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle betting hasn’t always been the best guide, the 11 non-favourites to have won comprising an average SP of 5/1 so don’t necessarily go for market leaders.

15 of the 19 winners were aged 4 or 5 so it appears the young, improving horses will be the ones to concentrate on in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle 2019.

Royal Bond Novice Hurdle Betting

Once the final Royal Bond Novice Hurdle runners are known we’ll be rife with offers, such as Best Odds Guaranteed, Non-Runner No Bet and plenty of money back deals.

Royal Bond Novice Hurdle tips should be plentiful so keep an eye out, and once your bet is decided look for the likes of Betway and Betfair.

Betway are offering £10 in free bets when you place £25 in multiples while Betfair offer money back if your horse goes odds-on in running then loses, something to bear in mind should we end up with a short-priced favourite.

Royal Bond Novice Hurdle Winners

Sent off the even-money favourite under Ruby Walsh, Quick Grabim became Willie Mullins’ eight winner of the Royal Bond when taking care of just three rivals comfortably in 2018.

The six-year-old was indeed an impressive winner on the day but did not make the Cheltenham Festival, instead heading for Punchestown where he was fourth to Klassical Dream. Here is every winner of the Royal Bond since 2000 along with their subsequent Cheltenham Festival performances:
